At the heart of the upgraded SCAR 17S is a hydraulically buffered two-piece bolt carrier system that reduces felt recoil and helps deliver faster, more controlled follow-up shots. Combined with FN's proven short-stroke gas piston operating system and two-position adjustable gas regulator, the rifle offers exceptional reliability in demanding conditions and improved suppressor performance when paired with low-backpressure suppressors.

The cold hammer-forged, chrome-lined 16.25-inch free-floating barrel is engineered for durability and accuracy, featuring a heavy barrel profile tested to 16,000 rounds for sustained high-volume shooting. The extended monolithic receiver and integrated rail system provide increased handguard space while offering M-LOK attachment points at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions for lights, lasers, bipods, and other accessories.

Ergonomics have also been enhanced with an improved FN-designed single-stage trigger, ambidextrous controls, customizable selector levers, elongated magazine release buttons, and configurable non-reciprocating charging handles.
